Did you know that SWACO has partnered for more than a decade with the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District to provide discounted backyard composters through their Community Backyard class to Franklin County Residents? Community Spotlight: Bexley Freedge

Have your heard about the City of Bexley Freedge?  The Freedge opened in August of 2025 on Delmar Drive at the North Bexley Community Garden.  What is a Freedge?  It’s a free refrigerator and freezer aimed at cutting food waste and helping neighbors in need.  The Bexley Freedge is open to the public 24/7.  The Freedge accepts unopened, prepackaged food from licensed kitchens, grocery stores, or cottage foods, as well as labeled whole produce, beverages, frozen items, and other shelf-stable items.  Homemade or opened food items are not accepted, nor are leftovers from restaurants.

We know that when food is wasted, so are the resources that went into growing, transporting, preserving, and preparing it, and that shopping local can help reduce that waste, conserve natural resources, and support our local growers and economy.
