Every year, billions of gallons of water and thousands of acres of land are used to produce our food. Yet in Central Ohio, nearly one million pounds of food waste still finds its way to the Franklin County Sanitary Landfill every day. When food is wasted, so are the resources used to grow, transport and prepare it.

That’s why it’s time to Save More Than Food. By making small, mindful choices, we can reduce food waste, conserve natural resources and support Central Ohio’s economy.

One simple way to start is to think local. Choosing locally grown food supports Ohio farmers who care for the land, water and air in our communities while also keeping dollars close to home.

Across Central Ohio, farmers markets make it easy to shop fresh, local products like produce, meats, cheese and honey. As you plan your visits, be sure to check out 2026 farmers market dates, locations and vendor details to make the most of the season.
